At least some of you must have been receiving those so called gurus' mails. The way they flood inboxes makes you rethink whether to continue with their service at all. But Hold A Minute! Most of us use free email boxes. More over, the latest ones provide you unlimited inbox space. Still you want to unsubscribe career planner mails or interview tips? After all none of them spam just as such, unless you had subscribed at some point of time. Getting hired is not the end of career! Bureau of labor statistics (bls.gov) says almost all ordinary Americans change careers every 3-4 years. The job market is not a stagnant water anymore. Look at what happens when job market changes. The market demands new or improved products whichcan be you but only if you upgraded yourself regularly. But you can't be a surgeon after being an accountant for 25 years Nothing is lost if you can't. But look at how the world is moving and how fast. Keeping abreast with change is posible through various routes. I regard free mail updates and interview call letters as one of them. Career counselors and recruitment experts have researched and what they mail you is not all junk. Recruitment and HR managers want to share the latest If there was nothing more than hot gas, they would be out of business quickly. They discover and develop something new constantly which they want to share with you; of course this is their business. Fine, when you don't want to save the mail, you have the option to delete it. The Masters

(Despite my grumbling about the geographical incongruity of moving the Players to May, at least this way well have one major a month from now until August.) The Masters is won by the top players in any given decade. Byron Nelson and Gene Sarazen won in the 1930s. Nelson, Jimmy Demaret and Sam Snead won in the 40s. Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Snead and Demaret won in the 50s. Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Palmer won in the 60s. Tom Watson, Raymond Floyd, Fuzzy Zoeller, Nicklaus and Player won in the 70s. Seve Ballesteros, Ben Crenshaw, Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer, Nicklaus and Watson all won in the 80s. Tiger Woods, Fred Couples, Jose Maria Olazabal, Faldo and Langer all won in the 90s. This decade Vijay Singh, Phil Mickelson and Tiger have won. The 60s were dominated by Palmer and Nicklaus, who each won three times. The oughts are going the same way, Woods with three and Mickelson with two. (Singh won in 2000, Mike Weir in 2003.) The point is that when you look at the winners over the history of the tournament, you see mostly top players. Leaderboards at The Masters are usually an All-Star team. This is not a major to take a chance with a 150-1 shot. (Its fun to look at the long,long, long shots, though: Would you take Ballesteros at 750-1 or Nicklaus at 1000-1? Player at 5000-1,anyone?) That said, there are some compelling possibilities under 100-1. Like Olazabal at 66-1. Bottom line: the guy can still play. Like Charles Howell III at 50-1. Hell go early in office pools. Hes the not-so-under-the-radar pick. Local boy, staying with mom and dad this week, having an excellent year, already a win, etc. The mid-range odds are even more enticing. Henrik Stenson, Jim Furyk and Padraig Harrington at 33-1 seem like good cost-benefit picks. Furyk, in particular. He had to make a long putt on 18 last year just to make the cut, and he still finished T22. Hes got three top-10s at Augusta to boot. Probably the best deal is Adam Scott at 33-1. He won last week, hes won the Tour Championship and the Players, so hes no stranger to big tournaments with strong fields. And, as Johnny Miller pointed out last weekend, his swing once again looks identical to Tigers. He was shaky with short putts on Thursday and Friday, though. You cant miss many close opportunities if youre going to contend at Augusta. The picks are below. As Ive said many times, this is my favorite sporting event of the year for many reasons, near the top of the list being the relative lack of commercials. Oh, and the pretty flowers are high on the list. And the course. The slick greens. And the sound of birds chirping in the Georgia spring. And Amen Corner. The accuracy required of No. 13. And At The Masters, take Tiger Woods (11-8), 1/6 unit: When Tiger says he likes the way hes playing, which is what he said after winning the CA Championship two weeks ago, look out. Take Vijay Singh (16-1), 1/6 unit: When Vijay says hes close then wins, which is what happened three weeks ago at Arnies tournament, look out. Quantity vs. Quality in Sports Gambling

Is it possible to win at that percentage over a short period of time? Absolutely. If someone is able to maintain that winning percentage over the course of years enjoy your riches, and I wish you all the luck in the world. Now the truth. Its not going to happen - forget it, 60% is nearly impossible over any substantial length of time. 55%, maybe, but anyone who claims a 60% win rate over multiple sports and seasons is simply lying or they are betting a very small number of games. Dont give up yet however. Below I will show that winning 54 out of every 100 games (54%) can turn a nice profit. The example below will examine the attainable profits from different amounts a games wagered and different winning percentages of those games. For the sake of argument
someone could claim that they have hit 60% winners betting on sports the past three years, for example. But if they only bet 10 games a year 30 total over the three year span and they win 18 of those, I guess they have the right to claim they can handicap sports at a 60% win rate. Technically correct, but a very weak claim. Wager size $110 Betting $110 to win $100 60% winning percentage over 30 games 18 winners = $1800 12 losers = $1320 Profit = $480 For someone who claims to pick 60% winners over the past three years, and is betting roughly $100 a game a $480 profit does not look all that impressive. So much for that impressive 60% winning percentage. Let us now look at a different example. A guy claims that he has hit a conservative 54% of his games over the past 3 years (52.38% is the break even point). However, over the course of that time he bets roughly 3 games per day on all major sports. His total games bet would be 3285 over that time span. Lets examine his numbers using the same bet size as the so called 60% bettor. Wager size $110 Betting $110 to win $100 54% winning percentage over 3285 games 1774 winners = $177400 1511 losers = $166210 Profit = $11,190 You can see from these simple examples that it is important to not only look at winning percentages, but also the number of games wagered and the bet size to realistically analyze potential profits. Be sure to take this into account when analyzing your bets, or when you hear outrageous claims of 60% or better winning percentage over a long period of time. How Do You Know Your Clients Can't Pay More?

professionals checked off reasons why their income was
not going through the roof, this statement was chosen
more often than any other. If you're tempted to agree that what clients can
afford limits you, let me first ask: are you certain
of that? You can't make a leap from what people say
about this to whether or not they can find the money
if sufficiently convinced that it's important. Years ago, someone starting up a new business called
me for a consultation and told me he could pay no more
than such and such. It turned out that the most
convenient place for our meeting was his house, which
I could not help noticing had the size and glitziness
of a small mansion, with a market value of at least
three-quarters of a million dollars. What he named as
his paltry budget reflected what he felt advice on
this matter was worth, not what he had to spend. By
pointing out how much getting his business onto a
sound footing was worth to him and how much in wasted
expenditures I could save him, I'd have been able to
reshape his thinking on what it was reasonable to
spend. Another time a client launching a catchy new product
wanted to know what kind of publicity services I could
offer her for a couple of hundred dollars. I didn't
hear from her again for quite a while, at which time
she told me she'd hired a traditional PR firm, paying
a retainer and fees of more than a thousand dollars a
month. I'd gotten the impression that she didn't have
that kind of money to invest, and I was very wrong. At the other end of the spectrum, more than once I've
been startled to learn that a client who paid
relatively high rates without complaint was having
trouble scraping money together for rent. In truth, until you confidently raise your rates, it's
impossible to know who will go along and who will not.
This is particularly so when you do great work and
educate clients on the value they receive. Remember too that when you raise your rates, you can
lose some clients and still make higher profits
overall from those you retain. In addition, you can earn more from each customer
without raising your rates by selling them additional
products and services. In this situation, they're
paying you more but don't feel they are. Finally, if you're in one of those rare situations
where clients truly don't have money, consider whether
this is the audience you most enjoy serving or whether
you think you're only worthy of working with them. In
the former case, it's still often possible to find
outside entities, such as corporate sponsors, to
support your work. Sometimes what feels like an absolute limit to your
earnings only means you have not yet enjoyed a
